Questions

Frequently asked

Straight answers about garage door repair in Kansas City. Still unsure? Ask us directly.

Do you work on doors built before 1970?

Yes, and it's most of what we see. A lot of the housing stock in Kansas City dates to the 1950s and 60s, so original doors and older torsion or extension spring setups are routine work for us, not a special case.

How do I know if it's the spring or the opener?

If the door won't budge even when you pull the release cord and lift by hand, it's usually the spring. If the door lifts fine manually but the opener won't move it, the motor, gears, or wiring are more likely the problem.

Why did my spring snap in cold weather?

Kansas City's winters run cold and severe enough that metal contracts and lubricant thickens, adding stress to a spring that's already near the end of its cycle count. Cold snaps are a common trigger, not a coincidence.

Is it worth fixing an old door instead of replacing it?

Sometimes. It depends on the age, the part needed, and whether that part is still made. On some older builds around here, parts are hard to source, and a new door ends up cheaper than chasing a discontinued piece.
